Albums
Toto's discography includes 13 studio albums and four live albums. There are also a few compilations. In addition to the release of original music, Toto has also done collaborations with other artists as well as on soundtracks for films. The group has won a number of Grammy Awards for their work.
Before the formation of Toto the band, members performed sessions for other musicians. David Paich, the son of drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all performed on Boz Scaggsalbum in 1975 Silk Degrees. The group's collaboration led to formation of Toto in 1976.
The band's third album, Turn Back, marked a departure from the more progressive sound of their earlier efforts and was criticized for the absence of hit singles. In 1985, lead singer Fergie Frederiksen quit the group, and the band held auditions for the new frontman. The band chose guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in 1986.

The album was well received by fans and the band went on a tour featuring former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro, and Joseph Williams.
In the course of the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun, drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live album titled Falling in Between, which included recordings from the tour as well as an interview with Toto.

The band decided to let him leave at the end of the tour and then hired singer/guitarist Joseph Williams in his place. Drummer David Hungate also left the group after the tour. He was replaced by bassist Leland Sklar.
The TOTO Museum is a futuristic structure with a variety of exhibition rooms dedicated to presenting the story of the company and its most innovative products. The song "Africa" is from the album Toto IV. The song was written by members of the band and was produced by David Paich. It was a huge hit in Europe and other countries. The success of the single helped Toto to regain their popularity after their previous album Turn Back failed to chart in America.
Following the release of the album, Toto went on a world tour. The group included touring musicians Lenny Castro, Shannon Forrest, Warren Ham and Shem von Schroeck. In addition, guitarist Steve Lukather released his second solo album, Luke.
In 1985, Fergie Frederiksen, Toto's drummer, quit the group due to personal reasons. Toto decided to conduct an audition and eventually chose Joseph Williams to replace Frederiksen.
Before and during Toto's formation, its members worked as session musicians for a broad range of artists. Toto was created after Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and Boz Scaggs recorded Silk Degrees. Keyboardist Paich was regular on albums by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.
In 1998, Toto started working on a project entitled Old Is New. The album featured three brand new tracks as well as several finished recordings of songs from the past. The album was a global hit and the band toured on tour to promote the album.
